Recently, medical tourism is gaining popularity in countries. Because the doctors in these countries have the necessary training and also maintain the standards that are found in developed countries. To get the benefits of healthcare at a fraction of the cost involved in developed countries. Patients do not also have to wait for longer duration to get treatment.

However, the safety of these medical treatments must be taken into consideration before going in it. One way of doing this is to know whether the treatment is at par with that of a developed country is to check for JCI accreditation. JCI means Joint Commission International and hospitals in US that has JCI accreditation is taken to be among the top hospitals of the country. Any overseas hospitals that have the JCI accreditation is considered to be first class hospital and whose care and procedures are as good as that of the US hospitals.

If any country does not have the JCI accreditation, then one can look for other standardizations like ISO or International Organization for Standardization. The ISO accredited hospitals have good management practices and are consistent and efficient in its activities. In Hong Kong, it is the Trent Accreditation that is used for hospitals and healthcare facilities to be at par with developed countries while in Canada, it is the Canadian Council on Health Services Regulation or CCHSA that is accreditation benchmark.

Before embarking in your journey for medical tourism in a foreign country, it is necessary to conduct a thorough research on the different facilities and doctors available in the offshore country and taking these accreditation conditions are an important criteria. It must be seen that both the facilities and doctors must have the necessary accreditation and certification by the medical board.

In spite of the many benefits available in getting quality and affordable healthcare services from offshore countries at a cheaper rates, there are certain risks involved. The most common issue that should be considered in medical tourism is the quality of service offered by these medial institutions. It often becomes impossible to find the qualifications of the different doctors and other specialized staffs who are working in these medical facilites and which are owned privately.

Hence, is absolutely necessary to check the hospital and clinic they are planning to go before their medical travel. To go about it, one can check with the internet, mainly the blog sites that speak first hand experiences and advices of patients who have undergone treatment in these medical institutions. All one has to do is to make little research on these medical institutions that are famous the world over and come to know about them in detail, so that the shady ones could be separated easily.
